Hikes at Fernie Alpine Resort

Right from the front door of your accommodations at Griz Inn, you can quickly access numerous excellent hiking trails at Fernie Alpine Resort. As an added bonus, from late June until early September, Fernie Alpine Resort operates both the Elk and Timber Chairs for quick access to the high alpine hiking trails. On the Elk Chair side a hike on the Summer Road Trail combined with a stop at Nature Bob’s Interpretive Centre is the perfect family outing. On the Timber Chair side, the Lost Boys Trail is an excellent option offering spectacular scenic views from Lost Boys Lookout. More adventurous hikers can extend the hike on the Lost Boys Trail along the ridgeto the top of Polar Peak. From there, enjoy a spectacular 360 Degree view of the surrounding Canadian Rockies.


Trails in and around the town of Fernie

For Griz Inn visitors with small children or those looking for a quick escape while visiting nearby historic Fernie (8 km drive from the resort), the Main Town Loop takes you on a leisurely stroll along the beautiful Elk River. The Great Northern Loop/Old Stumpy Trail as well as the Fairy Creek Falls Trail are also excellent options for easier trails with great mountain views and scenery.


Epic Hiking Adventures

For those interested in a bigger excursion, plan a full day hike on Heiko’s Trail, the Mt Hosmer Trail, or the SpineBack Trail Island Lake Lodge. From old growth forests, to wild alpine flowers to stunning Rocky Mountain views from over 6000 feet, these challenging but rewarded trails are the highlight of any visit to Fernie. Heiko’s Trail, in particular, is considered by many avid hikers as one of the best day hiking trails in the Canadian Rockies. Most noteworthy are the cascading waterfalls, giant cave and ancient cedars you encounter on the trail.
