While there is still plenty of snow in the alpine, the warmer weather this May has started to open up many of the lower elevation trails around Fernie. For outdoor enthusiasts, that means there are plenty of options for exploring the valley and mountain trails of Fernie. .. all just in time for the May long weekend!
Here are some suggestions on where to explore this May and early June:
Montane & Castle Mountain Area – Starting at the old historic barn in Montane, there are several excellent hiking and biking trails the the Montane & Castle Mountain area including a section of the Trans Canada Trail. Don’t forget to visit the ponies at the barn if you bring your little one s along!
Ridgemont Trails – with the exception of upper eco-terrorist, the trails network above ridgemont is snow free and in great shape for early season riding.
The Elk River Trails – the city trail network which follows along the Elk River is a perfect early season trail for walking, running or biking. The wide stroller-friendly trails are ideal for families and also provide access to several of Fernie parks including Rotary Park and Maiden Lake.
